Good coating work starts long before the spray gun comes out. An established industrial services company in Western Australia is adding to its workshop crew and wants a Blaster and Painter who knows that surface preparation decides how long a coating lasts.

Most of the day goes into grit blasting steel to Sa 2.5 and Sa 3, then laying down zinc-rich primers, high-build epoxies and polyurethane topcoats with airless and conventional spray gear. You will stripe coat edges, check film builds with a wet film gauge and follow QA/QC steps at every stage. Looking after the blast room and its equipment is part of the job. Eligible overseas candidates may be considered for sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grit blast and prepare industrial surfaces
  • Blast to the specified Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 cleanliness standards and confirm surfaces meet them before coating
  • Prepare materials and substrates for protective coatings
  • Apply zinc-rich primers, high-build epoxies, polyurethanes and other industrial coating systems
  • Run airless and conventional spray-painting equipment
  • Monitor coatings with wet film gauges and hold the required thicknesses
  • Carry out stripe coating and other specified coating stages
  • Follow QA/QC procedures from blasting through to painting
  • Inspect, maintain and troubleshoot blasting and painting equipment and the blast room
  • Load and unload blasting trolleys
  • Keep work areas clean, organised and safe

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial blasting and painting experience
  • Workshop experience in industrial surface treatment is essential
  • Proven ability to carry out abrasive blasting to Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 standards
  • Knowledge of industrial paint and protective coating systems, including full surface preparation and coating processes
  • Experience with zinc-rich primers, high-build epoxies and polyurethanes
  • Confident with airless and conventional spray equipment
  • Able to apply coatings accurately to specified thicknesses, with an understanding of wet film measurement and coating quality control
  • Strong troubleshooting and equipment maintenance ability
  • High attention to detail and consistent workmanship
  • Forklift licence is desirable
  • Experience operating gantry or overhead cranes is desirable
