A wood-fired grill, a fully fitted kitchen and room to put your own specials on the board each week. This Melbourne hospitality business is hiring a full-time Chef to cook bistro-style meals for its guests.
You will own each plate from prep to presentation, order supplies, help estimate food and labour costs and pitch in with menu ideas. Food safety, hygiene and correct storage, including freezing and preserving, are part of the daily routine, and you may help train newer cooks. The team is lively and supportive, and it expects steady quality on its busiest nights. Eligible candidates may be considered for employer sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities
- Cook quality bistro-style meals to a steady standard
- Own food quality from prep to the final plate, using the right cooking methods and techniques
- Suggest ideas for menus, dishes and weekly specials
- Plan food needs and help estimate food and labour costs
- Order and manage food supplies
- Work with managers, kitchen and service staff to coordinate food preparation
- Show cooking techniques to colleagues and help train and develop kitchen staff when needed
- Keep food safety, hygiene and cleanliness high and in line with hygiene requirements
- Handle food storage, preserving and freezing where needed
- Keep your station and the kitchen organised and efficient
- Work well in a busy team, help build a respectful, inclusive workplace and hold quality through busy services
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 1 year of professional Chef experience in a commercial kitchen
- Proven ability to prepare and cook quality food, with good practical cooking skills
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene
- Able to keep food quality consistent through busy services and in a fast-paced hospitality setting
- Confident working as part of a team, with strong communication and coordination skills
- Able to follow set kitchen procedures and standards
- A creative approach to menu ideas and weekly specials
- A professional attitude and dependable work ethic
- Genuine hospitality work experience that can be verified
- Willing to provide supporting evidence of relevant experience where required
