Tree work in Tauranga, from routine pruning to tricky removals, is what this Climbing Arborist job offers. The tree care company works on commercial, rural and residential sites and two climbers are needed.

You would climb, rig and take down trees with methods that suit each tree and site. You would plan each job for safety and work carefully around buildings, services and plants that must stay. The team prefers to keep healthy trees wherever it can. You would run specialist machinery, look after your gear and PPE, work with the ground crew and help with emergency callouts.

Sponsorship is available for suitable overseas applicants, and overseas candidates with verifiable relevant qualifications and experience are welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Climb and work on trees across commercial, rural and residential properties, including large commercial projects
  • Prune, reduce and carry out technical removals
  • Choose the right climbing, rigging and dismantling method for each tree and site
  • Manage aerial and ground-based work safely
  • Run specialist arboricultural machinery and equipment
  • Check site conditions and follow the work plan and safety procedures
  • Protect buildings, infrastructure and vegetation, keeping trees wherever reasonably possible
  • Look after climbing gear, tools, machinery and PPE
  • Work closely with the ground crew and other arborists
  • Take emergency and callout jobs when needed
  • Keep safety, reliability and quality high on every job

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Level 3 or Level 4 Arboriculture qualification, or equivalent experience you can show
  • Proven experience as a climbing arborist with strong aerial climbing and tree work skills
  • Practical rigging and technical removal experience
  • Able to run climbing operations on your own on suitable jobs
  • A strong grasp of safe arboricultural work practices
  • Class 1 driver's licence essential
  • Class 2 or heavy transport licence advantageous
  • Physically fit for demanding outdoor tree work
  • Reliable, honest and professional
  • Good teamwork and communication
  • Willing to do further arboricultural training where required
  • Must meet relevant New Zealand work visa and employer requirements
