Much of the cabling and piping under Australian streets goes in without an open trench, using horizontal directional drilling (HDD). An established infrastructure business in Adelaide is hiring a Directional Driller or Drill Tracker to work with its crews on power, water, sewer, gas and communications jobs around South Australia.
On a normal day you will run or track the bore, stick to approved procedures, log your work and look after the rig, with safety coming first. A background in service locating helps. What counts most is the work you have really done on site. Sponsorship is available for suitably qualified and experienced candidates.

Key Responsibilities
- Run and track HDD rigs on utility and infrastructure jobs
- Work out what each project needs and stick to the approved drilling method
- Keep an eye on bore progress so the site runs efficiently
- Locate services and identify underground utilities when asked
- Drill for power, communications, water, sewer and gas networks
- Hold firm safety and quality standards on every job
- Work within company procedures, project systems and compliance rules
- Record operational and project details accurately
- Check and maintain drilling gear, and report faults straight away
- Talk clearly with crews, supervisors and other people on site, and work well together
- Notice safety or operating risks early and act on them
- Deliver the same quality of work on every project and keep the site tidy and safety-minded
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated professional background in directional drilling or drill tracking
- Solid hands-on experience running horizontal directional drilling operations
- Can supply evidence of past HDD work and experience
- Relevant industry qualifications, licences or accreditations
- Service locating experience is advantageous
- A proven commitment to workplace health and safety, and a professional attitude to quality and compliance
- A steady, reliable work history
- Good communication and people skills, and able to work within a professional site crew
- Sharp attention to detail
- Hard-working and dependable
- Comfortable following structured systems, procedures and paperwork rules
- Quick to adapt to new project needs and work settings
