Most electricians spend their days on fit-outs and maintenance. This Sydney opening, for an Electrician or Junior Electrician, centres on standby generators and the controls that keep critical buildings running when mains power drops.
Expect hands-on testing when buildings shut down, controller and PLC fault-finding, transfer switch checks and upgrade work across commercial sites, with engineers close by for support. The crew is small, and some night and weekend shifts come with it. The employer will check that your electrical experience is genuine.

Key Responsibilities
- Keep the electrical parts of backup generator sets in working order, and carry out their upgrades and modifications
- Run generator and emergency power tests while buildings are shut down, AFSS-related testing included
- Trace faults in generator controllers, PLCs and their control circuitry
- Check, test and fault-find Automatic Transfer Switches plus the switchgear around them
- Read schematics and single-line diagrams as you work
- Wire up control systems, then test them
- Assist when generators are commissioned or systems are upgraded
- Get to the bottom of technical issues and apply sensible solutions
- Handle jobs solo but keep colleagues in the loop, and partner with engineers on specialist generator projects
- Lend a hand on telemetry and control-system applications
- Cover planned night and weekend works
Requirements & Eligibility
- You hold a current NSW Electrical Licence, which is essential
- Your electrical trade background is proven in practice, and past employers can confirm it
- You can follow electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
- You like hands-on work and handle electrical and trade tools with confidence
- You diagnose a problem, then work it through to a practical answer
- You are fine working unsupervised when needed and pull your weight in a small crew
- Generator controller experience with Deep Sea, Cummins, CAT or Woodward is advantageous
- You are curious about PLCs, control wiring, telemetry and standby power
- Full NSW Driver Licence required
- You can drive a manual vehicle
- You can do the odd night or weekend shift
