Two Floor Layers are needed for a flooring team in Mackay, QLD that keeps a steady flow of jobs across homes, shops, offices and new builds.
Most days you will measure up, read the plans, lift old coverings, prepare the subfloor and then lay carpet, carpet tiles or luxury vinyl plank with neat trims and edges. You will deal directly with customers and builders, so a friendly manner counts as much as clean seams. Suitably skilled overseas applicants with verifiable relevant experience may be eligible for visa sponsorship. A driver's licence and a construction White Card must be in place before your first day.

Key Responsibilities
- Inspect each work area, measure accurately and read plans to work out the flooring materials needed
- Lift old floor coverings and prepare subfloors properly
- Lay broadloom carpet with underlay, gripper, seams and correct stretching
- Fit carpet tiles on residential and commercial jobs
- Install luxury vinyl plank
- Cut, fit and finish all materials precisely, including trims, thresholds and edges
- Fix and rectify faulty work when needed
- Keep the vehicle, tools and site tidy and safe
- Work well with customers, builders and other trades
- Meet Australian workplace safety rules and flooring installation standards on every job
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Floor Layer
- Proven hands-on work with broadloom carpet and/or vinyl plank
- A strong grasp of subfloor preparation
- Able to measure accurately and work from plans
- A proven record of finishing flooring installations to a professional standard
- A current driver's licence and a current construction White Card, both held before starting
- Good communication skills and comfortable dealing with customers
- Dependable and physically able to do flooring work
- Able to work alone or within an installation team
- Commercial sheet vinyl experience, including welding, coving and wall vinyl, is highly regarded
- Advanced floor preparation experience is highly regarded
- Experience installing floating floors or engineered timber is highly regarded
