A new restaurant is opening in Ballarat with an Italian-inspired menu, and it needs a full kitchen crew. The search covers a Head Chef to lead and shape the menu, plus experienced Chefs, Cooks and Kitchen Hands for the opening team. The Head Chef and Cook roles suit people whose experience can be checked.

As Head Chef, you would set standards, lead the team, plan specials and seasonal dishes and manage ordering, stock and food costs. In the other roles, you would prep and cook Italian and European dishes with care and keep every plate consistent. Everyone keeps the kitchen clean, safe and working well with management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead kitchen operations and coordinate the team
  • Prepare and present high-quality Italian and European-inspired food to a consistent standard of taste and presentation
  • Help develop menus, recipes, specials and seasonal dishes
  • Handle food prep, purchasing, ordering and stock rotation
  • Watch stock levels, food costs, labour planning and kitchen resources
  • Train, guide and support kitchen staff
  • Keep kitchen procedures accurate and consistent and meet food safety, hygiene and workplace standards
  • Work efficiently through busy services
  • Keep the kitchen clean, safe and organised
  • Keep communication clear between the kitchen and management and help build a positive team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Relevant, verifiable commercial kitchen experience
  • Minimum 3 years of senior chef or Head Chef experience for Head Chef applicants
  • Previous experience as a Chef, Cook or Kitchen Hand for the other roles
  • Able to show relevant culinary skills and professional experience
  • Italian or modern European cuisine experience is highly regarded
  • Relevant culinary qualifications or recognised trade training are advantageous
  • Strong leadership and communication skills for senior roles
  • Knowledge of food costing, ordering, stock control and kitchen operations
  • Keeps standards high in a fast-paced kitchen and understands food safety and hygiene well
  • Reliable, organised and professional, and works well as part of a kitchen team
  • Available for hospitality shifts, including evenings and weekends
