Heavy Excavator Operator
Visa sponsorship
Construction · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $35 - $40/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored
Scrap processing on a big machine is a skill of its own, and an Auckland metal recycling yard wants a Heavy Excavator Operator who already has it. The yard runs fast but puts safety, professionalism and efficient work first, and this is a permanent place in its yard crew.
You will sit in a 30-tonne tracked excavator and switch between three attachments: a shear, a grapple and a magnet. The work covers the whole processing cycle, from cutting heavy structural steel down to size through to filling bulk containers for export. Hours are full-time, with at least 30 a week and consistent weeks of up to 50. The yard notes potential AEWV (Accredited Employer Work Visa) sponsorship support for highly qualified international applicants who are already onshore or ready to move.
Spell out your shear, grapple and magnet work plus any demolition or quarry machines on your CV; prepare a scrap-yard excavator CV with Build AI CV so the yard sees your skills quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Cut down car bodies, machinery and structural steel with the hydraulic shear
- Sort metals with the grapple and feed plant such as balers and shredders
- Stockpile ferrous metals with the magnet and keep processing lanes clear
- Load out bulk export containers
- Carry out daily pre-start checks and look after hydraulic lines when changing attachments
Requirements & Eligibility
- 30-tonne-plus excavator experience in a scrap metal yard, heavy demolition or quarry setting
- Direct, confident experience running a hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet (essential)
- Valid NZ Class 1 licence with a WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
