A long-running HVAC and refrigeration service company in Hamilton wants an experienced technician for its commercial customers. You will be the person sent to the tricky jobs, so calm, methodical fault-finding matters more than speed.
One week might be planned servicing and breakdown calls; the next could be a new install you commission and bring online. Chillers, central plant and multi-split systems are all part of the mix, along with pipework, controls and building management screens. You will also share the after-hours callout roster and speak with customers directly. Sponsorship is available for eligible overseas applicants who satisfy the role requirements and applicable visa criteria.

Key Responsibilities
- Look after commercial air conditioning and refrigeration plant through inspections, servicing, repairs and planned maintenance
- Keep central plant chilled water systems running and sort out their faults
- Work on VRF/VRV units, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, and DX and chilled water process cooling gear
- Pin down failures in compressors, fan motors, refrigerant circuits and their parts
- Take systems from installation through commissioning to first start-up
- Work from building drawings, technical documents and equipment specs
- Handle ACR copper pipe and welding when needed, then pressure test and evacuate the system
- Isolate, disconnect and reconnect power where you are authorised to
- Set and calibrate temperature controls and use HVAC controls and Building Management System screens
- Weigh up each technical problem and pick the best fix
- Leave every customer site to a professional standard and keep customers on side
- Wear the right PPE, follow each site's Health & Safety rules and join toolbox talks, inductions and safety reporting
- Be part of the after-hours callout roster
Requirements & Eligibility
- National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
- At least 5 years on central plant systems and chillers since qualifying
- Applicants without the specified qualification may be considered with 8+ years of relevant experience
- A solid commercial HVAC and refrigeration background covering chillers, VRF/VRV, DX and chilled water
- Good at finding faults, diagnosing them and putting them right
- Hands-on installs, commissioning and start-ups of HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Comfortable reading technical drawings and equipment specs
- Can work without supervision and own the jobs you are given
- Strong with customers and a clear communicator, with a steady record of quality work
- Ready to take part in an on-call roster, with a safety-first attitude and professional conduct on site
- Can back up your qualifications and work history with evidence
