Maintenance and Reliability Lead

Most maintenance leads inherit a system. This one gets to build it. A growing Perth manufacturing plant wants a Maintenance and Reliability Lead to move it away from fixing things after they break and towards planned, measured upkeep.
Part of the week would be strategy: deciding what gets serviced and when, setting up preventive and predictive routines, tightening the asset register and the CMMS, and making sure critical spares are on hand. The rest is practical. When a line stops, you would be the one tracing the fault through drives, controls, hydraulics or wiring, then working out why it happened and stopping it coming back. You would deal with contractors and equipment makers, help with installs and upgrades, and work side by side with the production crew. People with a solid industrial maintenance record from overseas are welcome to apply.
Your CV should name the plants you have looked after, the control systems you have fault-found and the reliability improvements you led. map out your plant reliability lead CV with Build AI CV so it reads clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the direction for maintenance and reliability across the plant
- Answer for how often equipment is available, how reliably the plant runs and how well maintenance performs
- Build planned maintenance from scratch, covering both preventive and predictive work
- Attend breakdowns and find the cause, whether it is hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical or in the instruments
- Do hands-on electrical and mechanical work where your qualifications and authorised scope allow
- Fault-find on automation such as drives, PLCs, HMIs, motors, sensors and instruments
- Look for repeat failures, get to the root cause and fix it for good
- Time maintenance around the production plan and how critical each machine is
- Keep the asset register, work orders, maintenance history and equipment records accurate
- Set up and strengthen CMMS use, including MEX and other maintenance systems
- Write service intervals, inspection checklists, procedures and maintenance standards
- Make sure critical spares are identified and on the shelf when needed
- Manage contractors, suppliers, original equipment makers and specialist service firms, and support new installs, upgrades, modifications, commissioning and handover
- Coach operators to care for their machines and spot faults early, and push for better uptime, faster response and safer work
- Make sure isolation, lockout/tagout and permit-to-work rules are followed and licensed work is left to qualified people
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised trade qualification in mechatronics, electromechanical engineering, fitting and turning, mechanical fitting, industrial electrical or a related technical discipline
- Strong background maintaining industrial plant in production, processing or manufacturing, including demonstrated hands-on repair and diagnosis of industrial equipment

- Strong fault-finding and mechanical maintenance capability
- Knowledge of corrective, predictive and preventative maintenance practices
- A record of cutting equipment downtime and lifting plant reliability
- Experience using a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS); experience with MEX or a comparable system will be highly regarded
- Can build maintenance documentation, processes and systems from nothing
- Strong root-cause, troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
- Can juggle competing maintenance priorities while managing manufacturers, suppliers and contractors
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Background in milling, grain, animal feed, pet food, FMCG, food or similar manufacturing industries will be advantageous
- Hands-on time with automated packing, coating, mixing, cooling, drying, batching, conveying or extrusion equipment will be advantageous
- Experience in reliability engineering, condition monitoring, equipment upgrades or commissioning will be highly regarded
- Understanding of controlled manufacturing environments, HACCP or GMP will be advantageous
- Works safely inside your authorised scope, licences and relevant qualifications
