Underground hard rock mining lives or dies on good short-term plans. An established underground operation in Queensland, with this role listed in Brisbane, wants a senior Mining Engineer to lead that planning.
You will take the wider mine strategy and turn it into plans the crews can actually follow: development and production designs, stope reviews, drill and blast designs and the sequencing that ties development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill together. You will test plans with the operations team, flag risks early and mentor engineers, graduates and cadets. Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead short-term underground mine planning and deliver the plans
- Turn the wider mine strategy into practical plans for operations
- Design layouts for development, production and underground infrastructure using mine planning software
- Prepare and optimise drill and blast designs and review stope designs and short-term production needs
- Use engineering judgement to improve sequencing and operating results
- Work with operations teams so plans are realistic, and flag risks, constraints and improvement ideas
- Give technical direction to the mining engineering team and mentor engineers, graduates and cadets
- Coordinate planning across development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill and support production readiness
- Help improve mine planning and design practices over time
Requirements & Eligibility
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 6–8 years of mining engineering experience
- Strong underground hard rock mining experience that is genuine and verifiable
- Proven short-term mine planning experience and demonstrated capability in operational mine design
- Strong experience in drill and blast design
- A good grasp of underground mining methods and production processes, with strong stope design and mine sequencing knowledge
- Experience giving technical leadership or mentoring junior engineers
- Proficiency in Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to work well with both technical and operational teams
