Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning)
Visa sponsorship
Engineering · Brisbane, QLD, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored
An underground zinc-lead-silver mine in Queensland with a long life ahead of it is filling a permanent Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning) role. The sequence is complex, with several operating fronts and close links between development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services and production readiness.
Your job is to build, maintain and keep improving the mine plans and schedules that help the site hit its production and development targets. You can be based in Brisbane, fly in and fly out (FIFO), or live at the mine. Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.
Engineers who have planned stopes or development headings in hard rock mines should name the software, mining methods and schedules they handled. Sharpen an underground mine-planning CV on Build AI CV to make that clear.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mine plans and schedules and keep them up to date
- Continuously improve those plans so production and development targets are met
- Turn Life-of-Mine and long-term strategies into workable medium-term sequences that make the most of stope extraction, development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness
- Prepare medium-term sequences that can be broken down into short term plans
Requirements & Eligibility
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related field
- Proven underground hard rock mining experience, preferably including mine planning, scheduling or technical services work
- Skilled with mine planning and design software (e.g. Deswik, Surpac or equivalent) for development planning, stope sequencing and schedule analysis
- Strong grasp of underground mining methods, development requirements and production sequencing, and able to fold geological, geotechnical, ventilation and operational constraints into practical plans
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to weigh planning risks, spot constraints and find practical solutions
