Smash repairs are careful work. A professional automotive workshop in Sydney is hiring a Panel Beater to bring damaged vehicles of many makes and models back to standard.
Each job starts with the damage and the job sheet. You check the parts that arrive, strip off what is broken, then mend or swap panels and refit them. Expect metal shaping, cutting, welding and fabrication, plus rust work, frame alignment and structural fixes when a car needs them. Filler, sanding and surface prep come before the vehicle goes back together. Cars are handled with care, tools stay in order and PPE is worn on every job.

Key Responsibilities
- Look over each damaged vehicle and its job sheet before any work begins
- Confirm incoming parts are the right ones and arrive undamaged
- Take vehicles apart as the repair plan says and pull off damaged panels, frames and parts
- Mend, swap and refit panels and structural pieces
- Shape, cut, straighten and weld metal, fabricating where a repair calls for it
- Assist with rust work, frame alignment and structural fixes as needed
- Spread body filler, then sand and prepare surfaces
- Rebuild vehicles with care once the repair is finished
- Make sure every completed job reaches quality and industry standards
- Handle customer and company cars gently
- Keep the bay, tools and gear clean, safe and in working order, wearing PPE and following all safety procedures
- Help the workshop run smoothly and keep up with newer repair methods
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised Panel Beater trade qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Proven experience in automotive panel beating and smash repairs
- Can show and verify your work history and professional identity, and will join the employer’s candidate verification and assessment process
- Sound knowledge of body repair and panel replacement on vehicles
- Hands-on with metal shaping, cutting, welding and fabrication
- Knows structural repair, frame alignment and rust treatment
- Practised at applying filler, sanding and preparing surfaces
- Strips and rebuilds vehicle components accurately
- Sharp eye for detail and pride in quality workmanship
- Handles tools and workshop gear safely and sticks to workplace safety and OH&S requirements
- Communicates well and works as part of a team
- Dependable, driven and professional
