Second in charge of a busy kitchen is a big job, and a good Sous Chef makes the Head Chef's day easier. A hospitality venue in Melbourne is looking for one to join its kitchen leadership team.
The menu covers modern classics, premium proteins, seafood and pub-style dishes. You would run service when it gets busy, guide junior and senior cooks, keep plates consistent, and help with ordering, stock, food costs and waste. You will also bring ideas for new menu items and seasonal dishes, and work closely with management and the front-of-house team.
Sponsorship may be considered after a required performance review.

Key Responsibilities
- Back up the Head Chef in leading and running the kitchen each day
- Step up and drive the kitchen when service is at its busiest
- Coach and mentor cooks at every level, from junior to senior
- Send out top-quality plates every service, matching recipes, portions and presentation
- Plan the prep so each service flows well
- Place orders, deal with suppliers and keep a close eye on stock and inventory
- Hold food costs down and keep waste to a minimum
- Make sure the kitchen stays clean, hygienic and food-safe
- Pitch ideas for new menu items and seasonal specials
- Keep modern classics, premium proteins, seafood and pub favourites consistent on the plate
- Build a respectful, productive kitchen and work hand in hand with management and front-of-house
Requirements & Eligibility
- A track record as a Sous Chef or an experienced senior chef
- Solid history in a high-volume pub, bistro, restaurant or similar kitchen
- Hands-on cooking and prep skills you can prove
- Shown you can lead a kitchen crew when service is busy
- Know what good food quality, presentation and consistency look like
- Practical work with stock control, ordering, food costing and waste management
- Sound grasp of food safety and hygiene
- Stay efficient when the pressure is on
- Clear communicator and confident team leader
- Dependable and professional in the kitchen
- Genuine culinary employment you can demonstrate and verify; chefs with documented, verifiable experience are encouraged to apply
