A full-time Accountant job is open in Wollongong, NSW. The employer is a financial services business with several services: accounting, tax, lending and financial advice.
They want an accountant with around 2 to 3 years of experience in Australian public practice (an accounting firm that serves outside clients). You will work for SME clients, companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals. An experienced Senior Accountant will support you and review your work. With time, you will take on more responsibility and work with clients directly.
The team gives mentoring and support for CPA or CA development, and there is a path to Senior Accountant and Client Manager. Employer sponsorship (the employer supporting your work visa) may be considered. The decision will depend on your experience, how suitable you are for the role and whether you are eligible for the visa.

Key Responsibilities
- Make financial statements and income tax returns for client companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
- Get BAS (Business Activity Statements) ready
- Look after accounting and tax tasks for small and medium business (SME) clients
- Help individual clients with their tax returns and with tax planning before the year closes
- Keep in contact with clients and, if required, the ATO (the Australian tax office)
- Plan your own tasks so statutory deadlines are met, and help the Senior Accountant run the client portfolio in Xero and other cloud systems
Requirements & Eligibility
- About 2 to 3 years working as an accountant in Australian public practice
- Has prepared financial statements and tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals before
- Sound knowledge of Australian tax and compliance in practice, BAS included
- Strong Xero skills
- Good communication in writing and speaking, strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle competing deadlines
- A tertiary (university or college) qualification in accounting, commerce or equivalent; CPA or CA studies, current or planned, highly regarded
